So We have 2 days to kill in Southern California so we decided to start riding down towards Yuma. and we stumbled upon this very strange place that evidently had a history of better days. This place is called Bombay Beach, California. This place is a small town on the eastern shore of the Salton Sea which according to Wikipedia had a population of 295 in 2010.
In the 1950’s this town was a getaway for people who enjoyed going to the beach and having a good time. it was a destination for about 1 million visitors per year. it would apparently not be rare to find celebrities like Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and The Beach Boys to name a few.
In the 70’s the sea was starting to get saltier and local farmers and big industries were pouring toxic chemicals in it, to a point where by the early 80’s 97% of the fish had died and the smell of the dead fish along with the toxicity of the sea had forced the tourists and the locals to abandon that place and leaving it a ghost town. Over the years, what was once a lively destination for many became an abandoned and practically destroyed place.
Nowadays Bombay Beach is attracting many photographers and younger people for shoots and videos.
